Leg 03 - Petersburg to Henderson, NC

1 state down - 7 to go. Photo is an old Virginia welcome center at the VA - NC state line. Prior to the building of the interstate highway system, I'm sure this was a stop for many people. Started earlier today at 6:30am to beat the heat and forecasted thunderstorms - only to combat somewhat endless climbs. Even though it did get to 95 around 1pm - was able to log 87 miles today and ended up getting within 3 minutes of my destination of Henderson, NC (35 miles north of Raleigh) and the rain came pouring down. Living the high life today - no peanut butter sandwiches - had 2 black forest ham sandwiches thanks to the support crew. Dad and I also have hit two of the best BBQ places last night and tonight, although I'm not quite a convert from Texas BBQ - yet.

Looks like you are making great progress and staying on schedule. Glad your Dad is helping out, too. And it sounds like you are really enjoying the experience - in spite of the rain, the heat and the hilly terrain.

A couple of days more like the last two and you should be wheeling into South Carolina.

Take care and enjoy the ride. Give your Dad our best.

Keep it rolling!!! You will be near Pinehurst on Monday from the way I map it. What a great next place to be for your trip. Stop by the clubhouse and get a demo putter and hit a few puts on one of the coolest putting greens in America.

I hope you will have a much flatter ride into SC.

Kel says hi. Have fun.

Hey, babe!

You're still looking strong even though I think this is proving to be even more challenging than you had anticipated. Go, gravy!

All day long my friends are asking me about your progress. We're all rooting for you and thinking about you constantly. We may not be there to drive the SAG wagon, but us Texans are with you in mind and spirit!

Much love. Miss you!
